Pre-Shipment Inspection & Certificates
Pre-shipment inspection is an independent check of goods before they leave the exporting country. This guide covers six kinds of inspection (quality, quantity, price comparison, tariff classification, laboratory testing and loading supervision), how the process runs from booking to the inspection certificate, whether the law requires a pre-shipment inspection in ten countries (no EU country requires an inspection before shipment; India requires quality control or inspection before export for goods it has notified, and a certificate for imports of metal waste and scrap), and checklists for textiles and apparel, food and agricultural products, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, machinery, electronics and handicrafts. Agencies publish neither prices nor lead times, so the guide gives none. The checklists are indicative: confirm current requirements with your inspection agency and the importing country's authority. No inspection agency is connected to FTA Marketplace yet, so you book directly with the agency you choose.
